Breaking Ground: WASH Foundation Improving Health in Uganda’s Tororo District

We hit water! The WASH Foundation’s recent drilling success marks a significant milestone in improving health and transforming lives in Uganda’s Tororo district. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and our partnership with the Ugandan Water Project, we’ve successfully drilled water wells at Magodes and Asinge Primary Schools, providing water access and improved hygiene and sanitation to over 3,000 students.

Our newly drilled wells provide critical water access to 1,207 students at Magodes Primary School, 1,457 students at Asinge Primary School, supporting the community’s ability to improve and sustain their health and livelihoods. Previously, students at Magodes Primary School had to walk 2 kilometers to collect water from a contaminated river, risking their health and safety. Now, with their own access to water on school grounds, we expect to see improvements in attendance, student health and overall community livelihood.

Our Mission in Action: Clean Water as a Catalyst for Community Empowerment

This project aligns with our mission to improve health and transform lives. By providing safe water access, we’re not only preventing water-borne diseases but also empowering these communities for a brighter future. Similar initiatives have shown up to a 23% increase in girls’ school participation, highlighting the important link between girls’ participation in school and sufficient water and sanitation access.

Looking Ahead

The WASH Foundation’s successful drilling efforts at Magodes and Asinge Primary Schools mark a significant milestone in improving health in Uganda, but our work is far from complete. These new water wells will serve thousands of students, families, and community members, providing essential access to safe water. However, because our goal is to provide water access to 6 schools in the Tororo district, we need your help to continue this critical mission.

Every donation brings us closer to our goal of expanding clean water access and WASH education to more communities in need. Your support enables us to drill additional wells, implement vital sanitation programs, and provide critical WASH education across East Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States. Together, we can create sustainable solutions that empower vulnerable populations and drive meaningful community transformation.

Will you join us in making a difference? Your contribution, no matter the size, can help us continue bringing clean water and hope to communities that need it most.
