Hurricane Fiona in the Dominican Republic

Hurricane Fiona struck the eastern provinces of the Dominican Republic (DR) on September 19th, causing major flooding and damage to thousands of homes in that region.  Our wonderful team in DR jumped right into action, partnering with the local charity community to distribute the first 1,000 bars of recycled Clean the World soap.
Beneficiaries included the community of Las Terrenas located on the Samana peninsula along the northeastern coast of the island. Floodwaters can increase the transmission of some communicable diseases, including gastrointestinal infections.  As such, handwashing becomes critically important at these times as an effective way to help prevent acquiring and transmitting infectious diseases. In response, The WASH Foundation, an evolution of Clean the World Foundation strives, as quickly as possible, to get soap into the hands of those individuals most in need after a natural disaster such as Hurricane Fiona.
