WASH Stations for People Experiencing Homelessness

In 2020, The WASH Foundation, an evolution of Clean the World Foundation partnered with the CDC Foundation to implement our WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) Stations program to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other hygiene-related illnesses by providing 24/7 access to hygiene and sanitation services.  The program was implemented by setting up clusters of portable toilets and handwashing stations on partner host sites in regions where there was a high number of people experiencing homelessness.

Laminated CDC posters placed on each unit illustrated how to practice proper handwashing and how to help curb the transmission of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases. CTWF WASH coordinators performed regular site visits to monitor and log guest use of the WASH Stations.  They also provided guests with hygiene items such as bottles of hand sanitizers and hygiene kits that included items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

A Word From Our Partners

Christian Service Center

“Closing our dining hall for daily hot lunch for the homeless of Orlando became a requirement. We did our best to provide a safer environment to eat outdoors, but there were other resources that financially we just couldn’t afford to supply. Being able to partner with the CDC and Clean the World to provide hand washing stations and restrooms to those experiencing homelessness has helped us stop the spread and encourage our community to be safe.”
