TWF Dominican Team Expands the Train-the-Trainer WASH Program Strategy

In November, The WASH Foundation’s Dominican team first learned and then co-implemented the DEWT (Delivering Effective WASH Training) workshop with our partners at the CAWST organization (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology). This December 2nd to the 5th, our team successfully replicated the training independently. As a result of our effort to expand the capacity to train other Latin WASH-focused institutions through the execution of the DEWT workshop, we trained 20 additional representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), the Rotary Club, the Ecological and Cultural Foundation of Anamuya (FUECA), among others.

WASH-in-Schools: Expanding Our Reach

After completing the workshop and receiving training certificates, representatives of each organization now have the skills and access to materials to continue training additional organizations how to effectively teach WASH and the important connection between proper hygiene practices and good health. As we continue our goal to expand knowledge and capacity around WASH throughout the Caribbean, the TWF Dominican team will deliver two additional DEWT trainings in 2025.

Looking Ahead

The successful implementation of the DEWT workshop is a big step forward in our mission to empower local organizations with essential WASH knowledge and training capabilities. By collaborating with these representatives and sharing resources, we’re supporting a growing network of local WASH educators who will continue to improve hygiene practices and health outcomes in their communities. We’re excited to keep the momentum going with more trainings next year, and we’re sure our work will keep making a real difference in public health and sanitation in the Dominican Republic and beyond.
