In February, several devastating earthquakes shook Syria and Turkey, leaving millions of people displaced and without necessities like shelter, food, clean water, and sanitation.
To be able to send hygiene supplies as quickly as possible, The WASH Foundation, an evolution of Clean the World Foundation teamed up with partners like Global Empowerment Mission on the ground to distribute disaster relief through our Global Emergency Program.
Thanks to your charitable donations, The WASH Foundation was able to send 30,000 bars of soap, 17,000 hygiene kits, and 6,500 bottles of shower gel. With the help of our distribution partner, these were distributed to earthquake survivors throughout Hatay, Turkey, as well as other locations impacted. We are grateful for this partnership and continued effort as we help those affected by this devastating disaster stay healthy during this time.
Our Global Emergency Program at The WASH Foundation also supports communities during destructive weather events by providing hygiene supplies, showers, and supportive services. In the states, after Hurricane Ian’s devastating impact on South Florida, The WASH Foundation responded to the call to provide showers to individuals and families seeking shelter. The Foundation dispatched our Fresh Start WASH & Wellness mobile shower unit, which was able to provide 430 showers, distribute much needed hygiene supplies, and was the only ADA compliant shower available. (ADA refers to the Americans with Disabilities Act.)
In the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, the Foundation collaborated with Fundación Unidos Para Servir, Friends of Puerto Rico, and Global Empowerment Mission to distribute 9,600 hygiene kits and 52,000 bars of soap. Additionally, The WASH Foundation partnered with Hilton Supply Management and the Quimocaribe Company in the Dominican Republic to distribute over 120 hygiene kits to orphanages and hurricane-affected individuals in La Altagracia province following Hurricane Fiona.
During times of disaster, there is an immediate need for access to hygiene materials and clean water; however, for those experiencing homelessness, that need is constant and is intensified during times of natural disaster. Through our Fresh Start WASH and Wellness program, we provide showers, hygiene kits, and essential resources to empower individuals experiencing homelessness and support their journey toward self-sufficiency.
