In Uganda’s Tororo District, access to improved water, sanitation, and hygiene resources has been a longstanding challenge. Thanks to The WASH Foundation’s comprehensive community WASH project, communities are now empowered to improve health and create brighter futures. A recent testimonial video from Magodes and Asinge Primary Schools highlights the transformative impact these new water wells have had on daily life.

Improving Health Through Clean Water
Before the wells, students at Magodes Primary School walked two kilometers to fetch water from a shallow stream, disrupting their education and risking their health. Now, clean water is available on school grounds, allowing students to focus on learning while improving hygiene practices. Parents share their gratitude for the improved safety of their children, and teachers report increased attendance and enthusiasm in the classroom.
Community Ownership for Sustainability
Each well is managed by community members trained in maintenance and sustainable practices, ensuring long-term benefits for over 8,000 students and their families. This approach empowers communities to take responsibility of their water resources, fostering resilience and independence. Access to clean water also reduces illness-related absenteeism and supports hygiene practices, especially for girls during menstruation.
