Clean Water Success in Tororo: Donors Fund 2 New Water Wells in Uganda

Thanks to an outpouring of donor support, drilling teams struck water reserves this month at Magodes and Asinge Primary Schools in Uganda’s Tororo District! For communities where safe water access has long been a daily struggle, these two new water wells, funded by your contributions, are now improving health and in turn transforming lives by providing hundreds of students and families with clean drinking water, sanitation, and brighter futures.

Infrastructure

After months of planning and drilling, clean water was successfully tapped at Magodes Primary School and Asinge Primary School, and your generosity powered the drills! These water wells will now supply drinking water for students, water for handwashing stations, and water for cleaning the school toilets. There was much joy as school administration, teachers, and students gathered to celebrate the installation of handpumps and cement reservoirs, preventing students from spending unnecessary time retrieving water from unsafe sources.

Water User Committee Training

Each water well is managed by the local community through their Water User Committee, ensuring long-term sustainability. This week, community leaders and teachers from Magodes and Asinge stepped up to join these committees, diving into a two-day training led by our drilling partner, the Ugandan Water Project. The sessions covered community water management, infrastructure maintenance and longevity, and raising community funds for future repairs—equipping community members with the tools to safeguard their water for generations.

Handoff Ceremony to Schools

The WASH Foundation organized a ceremony at each school to officially hand over water management to the community, a triumph made possible by your support! At Asinge Primary School, the ceremony concluded on February 26, with cheers as the community embraced ownership of their water source. Magodes Primary School hosted its handoff on February 27.

Your Donations Did This!

Every dollar contributed directly fueled this milestone: both water wells were funded by you. In Tororo, where waterborne illnesses often keep children out of school, these projects are more than infrastructure, they are proof of what collective action can achieve.

By training Water User Committees, The WASH Foundation ensures communities hold the keys to their own water security. Each water well serves approximately 500 people daily.

Stay tuned for further updates from the Tororo district and the communities your donations directly impact!
